Kiran Choudhry, Leader of the Haryana Congress Legislature Party, has flayed the BJP Government, led by Mr Manohar Lal Khattar, for shutting its eyes to the growing menace of stray cattle in the state and demanded immediate and concrete steps to solve  the problem. In a statement issued here today, the former excise and taxation minister said the problem of stray cattle had begun to assume alarming proportions. These roam about or camp freely on the roads, highways not excluded, posing a grave danger to the lives of travellers. The farmers suffer huge losses to crops with stray cattle barging into their farms along the roads, eating and destroying them.

“During my recent visit to Bhiwani, Tosham, Loharu, Badhra and Dari, the farmers told me their tale of woes scripted by the menace of stray cattle.  Roaming unchecked, the farmers pointed out, these destroyed crops and caused several accidents every day”, Mrs Choudhry said. She said the Haryana Government should learn from the neighbouring Rajasthan where the state government gave an incentive of Rs 50 per cattle per day to any one for the upkeep of stray cattle. Besides, sheds should be built along the highways where the stray cattle should be herded and lodged”, Mrs Choudhry demanded.
