Yet one more time, a civil society group from India backed by the incumbent Central Government is arriving in Kashmir in coming week to “clear the misconception among people of Kashmir that India doesn’t care for them.”“The date has not been fixed yet but one thing has been decided that government of India will send a civil society group to Kashmir to assess the situation on ground and instill confidence among people,” the coordinator of this civil society group and Delhi-based social activist Dr M.J Khan told Kashmir based news agency CNS over phone from New Delhi. He said that the decision to send a civil society group to Kashmir was taken during a meeting that was attended by Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday in New Delhi.

“We are very much concerned about the Kashmir unrest and the most worrying thing all for us is that some media channels are twisting the facts about Kashmir and are hell-bent to create an atmosphere of hatred against people of Kashmir all over India. In fact during the meeting it was decided to identify those news channels and initiate against them. People of Kashmir should know this fact that majority of population support and love them,” Khan said and added that people of Kashmir should meet Home Minister Rajnath Singh during his two day Kashmir visit starting from Wednesday and inform him about the situation persisting on the ground.

Another civil society member Dr Zafar-ul-Islam told CNS that he will not visit Kashmir. “In fact I participated in the meeting presided by Home Minister but I don’t want to become the part of this civil society group,” he said.Former Interlocutor MM Ansari also confirmed that during the meeting it was decided to send a civil society group to Kashmir. “In fact during the meeting civil society members mostly non-Kashmiri Muslims urged upon Home Minister to stop immediate use of pellets and implement all the recommendations that have been made by various committees from time to time vis-à-vis Kashmir. We also demanded that traders and other section of society should be compensated for their losses during the current unrest. In fact Home Minister informed us that there are no directions from the Central Government to be tough on protesters,” Ansari said. (CNS)
