The Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti inaugurated 30 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), one of the biggest such plants in J&K, at Bhagwati Nagar here today. The STP has been constructed by the Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) at a cost of Rs 30.82 crores.Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh, Member Parliament, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Vice-Chairman, SC Board, Bushan Dogra and Legislators, Sat Sharma, Anjum Fazili and Surinder Ambardar were also present on the occasion.The project has been designed to cater to a population of 2.80 lakh souls of Jammu city with a capacity of 31000 sewer connections. The STP will drain out 30 million litres of sewerage per day and will help general sanitation and environment improvement of a large are of Jammu west. Work on the project was started by ERA in June 2010 and has been completed within the stipulated timeframe.Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the long cherished demand of the people of Jammu city regarding treatment of sewage has been fulfilled with the commissioning of the STP. She said the STP has been designed to manage disposal of sewerage in a scientific manner.Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh said the Government is committed to development of Srinagar and Jammu cities and adequate resources are available for the purpose under various centrally sponsored schemes and in State sector.The Chief Minister also laid foundation of 32 (two BHK) residential flats to be constructed by the Estates Department for the Move Employees at Sarwal, Jammu.The additional residential accommodation is being constructed at a cost of Rs 7 crore with each flat having a super area of 800 sft.

The Chief Minister was informed that additional 64 (two BHK) residential flats are being constructed at a cost of Rs 14 crore at Ahata Amar Singh in Jammu city.The Chief Minister was informed that the Estates Department is also in the process of purchasing 32 (three BHK) and 100 (two BHK) flats being constructed by Jammu Development Authority (JDA) at Muthi. The cumulative cost of these projects is estimated to be Rs 61 crore.The Estates Department is also planning to construct 288 residential flats, including accommodation for legislators, at Gandhi Nagar Jammu in PPP mode by dismantling the existing C-Type residential quarters at a project cost of Rs 200 crore.The Department is also planning to acquire 23 VVIP villas to be constructed by the Jammu Development Authority at Sidhra at an estimated cost of Rs 23 crore.The Department also plans to construct 870 residential flats and villas at Jawahar Nagar and Pampore to create additional accommodation for government employees in and around Srinagar.Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Mr Navin Kumar Choudhary, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IGP Jammu, Mr Dinesh Rana, Director Estates, Dr G N Itoo, CEO ERA, Mr Vinod Sharma and other officers of civil and police administration were present on the occasion.
