Police Monday arrested dozens of government employees after they tried to protest against recent government circular and unabated use of pellets on protesters across Kashmir Valley.Government recently issued circular asking government employees to report on their duties. The circular warned employees that they will be deprived of their salaries in case they fail to join their duties.Scores of government employees led by Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) president Abdul Qayoom Wani assembled at Press Enclave Srinagar. Carrying placards and banner seeking a blanket ban on the use of pellet guns the employees tried to march towards city centre Lal Chowk. However, police quickly emerged in Press Enclave and bundled scores of employees including Wani, Fayaz Ahmed Shabnam, Shabir Ahmed Langoo into vehicles and lodged them at police station Kothi Bagh.

Before his detention, Wani told CNS that Government is fond of issuing diktats without knowing the ground reality. “How can a government employee report on duty when government has been imposing strict curfew and erecting barricades everywhere on roads. The CRPF personnel on roads even dishonor curfew passes. Despite that the employees have kept open all the essential service departments,” he said. The protesting employees while expressing anguish over the unabated civilian killings and the use of pellets across Kashmir Valley demanded that action should be initiated against those security personnel responsible for the use of pellets and killings. They alleged that government has miserably failed to check unabated killings of innocent people in Kashmir. (CNS)
