Srinagar , 19 Aug 2016

Chairman Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Strongly condemned the disallowing of congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar for the sixth consecutive week as he was once again arrested when he moved out of his house arrest to march towards Aripanthan, Beerwah to express solidarity with the people there and pay homage to the four people who were martyred by the Indian forces on Tuesday. Earlier senior Hurriyat leader, Molana Masroor Abbas Ansari led a peaceful protest demonstration at Nawa Kadal to protest against the killings and atrocities being committed by Indian troops.Mirwaiz said the mayhem and massacre in Aripantan where people were ruthlessly beaten houses ransacked and smashed and women abused and next day four innocent civilians killed in cold blood and many injured and the killing of another youth in Anantnag on the same day indicates that GOI has decided to continue and harden its fascist approach to deal with the people of Kashmir and their resentment.Mirwaiz said equally gruesome and heart rendering is the ruthless thrashing of hundreds of people by forces in Khrew where a young professor was inhumanly beaten to death or the shooting in the arm of an ambulance driver taking patients to hospital.

Mirwaiz said witnessing such painful incidents each day deepens our wounds and bleeds our hearts but it also strengthens our resolve to fight injustice and stand up for our basic right. Mirwaiz said that we as a people are going through immensely difficult times and only our resistance and our faith in it can carry us through. Hurriyat leadership is choked and not a single representative is allowed to move or to connect with the people, however much we want to be with our beloved people physically sharing our collective grief. Addressing the people Mirwaiz said it’s a people’s movement and we are with the people. All Kashmiri's wherever they are in whatever way possible have to contribute to the movement, through whatever resources they have be they writers, artists, students, activists lawyers, or from other professions in Kashmir or outside Kashmir. All have special responsibilities to take this movement forward.Citing the Amnesty international incident which was forced to close its offices across India , Mirwaiz said this makes evident how bigoted right wing Hindu organisations are calling the shots in India by not allowing Indian people access to information about Kashmir and the humanitarian crisis that is unfolding here. In the light of this incident it is all the more important for international human rights organisations and civil society groups to be come to Kashmir and take stock of extremely grave human rights situation here. I once again appeal to these groups to pressurize India to allow them to come to help and help stopping the genocide of people. (KNS)
