With an aim to motivate the Indian team participating in the ongoing Rio Olympics, the District Administration and Punjab Sports Department organised a half marathon, "Run ForRio" in the city early today morning. This half marathon started from Guru Nanak Stadium at 7 am and after passing through Fountain Chowk and Bharat Nagar Chowk, it finished at Guru Nanak Stadium, here.A large number of sportspersons, sports lovers and city residents participated in this event, the main aim of which was to motivate the players competing in the ongoing Rio Olympics. This half marathon was led by Asian cyclist and Police Inspector Mr Ramninder Singh Deol.While addressing the participants, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mr Rishi Pal Singh thanked all of them and said that such big participation in "Run for Rio" shows that all of us have full faith in our Indian contingent participating in ongoing Rio Olympics. Mr Rishi Pal Singh urged all the sportspersons participating in this half marathon that they should work hard in life and their main aim should be participating in the Olympics.District Sports Officer Ludhiana Mr Kartar Singh said that "Run for Rio" event started on August 5, 2016 and is being organised in all districts of the state, covering one district daily. Mr Ajitpal Singh, AEO (Sports), along with several other coaches of the Sports Department and Education Department, was also present.
