Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is under house arrest for the past 34 days at his Nigeen residence, was today arrested by a large contingent of government forces and detained at a local police station when he, as part of the unified resistance leadership’s programme, came out his residence to head toward Martyrs Graveyard at Eidgah, to pay glowing tributes to Shaheed-e-Azeemat, Sheikh Abdul Aziz and Mrtyrs of 2008 agitation on their 8th martyrdom anniversary.Earlier, senior APHC leader Moulana Masroor Abbas Ansari was alo arrested when he was leading a peaceful procession from Khanqah-e-Sokhta Nawa Kadal as part of the ‘Eidgah Chalo’ programme of the unified resistance leadership was also arrested when a large contingent of Police and government forces starting shelling tear smoke canisters, forcing the procession to disperse.
Talking to media persons outside his residence before his arrest, the Mirwaiz said people had been asked to reach Martyrs Graveyard at Eidgah peacefully to pay homage to Shaheed-e-Azeemat, Sheikh Abdul Aziz, martyrs of 2008 and 2010 uprising and all martyrs of Kashmir who had achieved martyrdom since 1990 and reiterate their resolve to carry forward the ongoing resistance movement until people get their right to self determination but the government was bent upon sabotaging all peaceful programmes given by the unified resistance leadership by displaying force and military might.Stressing that Kashmir’s peaceful struggle for the right to self-determination was on since 1947, he said that people of Kashmir have resolved that come what may they will continue to struggle till the Kashmir issue is resolved as per their wishes and aspirations.
Reacting to the Indian parliament’s so-called discussion on Kashmir and Indian Prime Minister’s beating around the bush instead of addressing the real issue hands on, by talking about issues of livelihood, development, jobs and economic packages which have no bearing on the actual problem, the APHC Chairman said by doing so the Indian PM has once again chosen to display the ostrich attitude and close his eyes to the reality of the ground situation Making it amply clear that Kashmir was neither an internal issue of India nor a law and order problem, he said Kashmir as it existed on 14th august 1947 is a dispute and Pakistan was one of the principle parties to the dispute, India being the other. It could be resolved either by implementing the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir or through meaningful dialogue involving New Delhi, Islamabad and Kashmir’s real leadership.
Replying to a question on the possibility of Indian Parliamentary delegations visiting Srinagar, Mirwaiz said that that during the 2010 uprising too, an All Party delegation of the Indian parliament visited Kashmir, showed anguish at the killings of people ,made tall promises, formed several committees and then once some normalcy was restored by barrel of gun, conveniently backtracked from all commitments.Making the announcement of the Referendum March given by the unified resistance leadership on August 13 and August 14, 2016, the APHC Chairman appealed the leadership and freedom-loving people from every village and town of Kashmir to march toward Lal Chowk where a mega rally will be held and people would resolve to take the resistance movement towards its ultimate goal.
