Curfew and restrictions continued on 32nd consecutive day on Tuesday in Kashmir while the reports of clashes and protests rallies were reported from South and north Kashmir. A top police official told KNS that curfew and restrictions remained in force in several districts including Kulgam, Anantnag, Pulwama, in parts of Srinagar and in other areas to thwart any possible protests against the civilian killings in Kashmir. Witnesses told KNS that a large contingent of police and paramilitary CRPF troopers were deployed on roads and streets and had erected concertina wires at most entry and exit points in several localities.According to KNS correspondent, thousands of people participated in a rally which was carried out in Lelhar area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district against the civilian killings in Kashmir.
He said that amid pro-freedom slogans, people from other adjacent areas reached Lelhar on bikes and other vehicles and participated in the rally, which was held in a playground.Meanwhile, reports said that clashes erupted between youth and forces in Lalpora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district after forces allegedly thrashed several youth on Monday.Reports said that thousands of people including men, women and elders staged protests on the second consecutive day today against the alleged high-handedness of the forces in Lalpora area of Lolab, adding that people stayed in Jamia Masjid overnight and prevented forces from even making the curfew announcement today morning.Reports said that hundreds of women staged peaceful protests in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district as part of Hurriyat programme.Amid pro-freedom slogans, hundreds of women from Warpora, Hathlangoo, Batengoo areas of the Sopore staged a peaceful march at Batengoo.
Meanwhile, women from Kupwara also staged sit-in protest against the civilian killings in Kashmir.According to KNS correspondent Wasim Majnoon Mir, women across the Kupwara district today staged a sit-in to protest against the Kashmir killings. Protesters said that the government is using pellet guns on innocent Kashmiris, which is inhuman. Notably, a complete shutdown was today observed in the Valley on 32nd consecutive day against the civilian killings that took place during the protests following the killing of Hizb commander, Burhan Wani on July 8 in a ‘gunfight’ in Bumdoora village of South Kashmir’s Kokernag district. Meanwhile, Kashmir’s Inspector general of Police (IGP), Javaid mutaba Gillani said that except for three incidents of stone pelting by miscreants on police deployments in Awantipora, Lalpora Kupwara and Ajas area of Bandipora District, the overall situation in the valley remained normal and under control.
“Although restrictions under section 144/CrPC remained in force in the Valley, curfew was imposed in some parts of Srinagar and Anantnag town only,” he said.He said that a group of miscreants assembled near village Chursoo, Awantipora on National Highway and tried to block the National Highway by pelting stones on the vehicles. In order to ensure smooth flow of vehicular traffic, the Police/Security forces reached the spot and chased the miscreants away.“A mob of 3000 people assembled near Jamia Masjid Lalpora in Kupwara District and started stone pelting on the police/security forces.Some militants were spotted in the mob. During dispersal of the mob two persons were injured. One of them was injured in stampede who has been referred to SKIMS Srinagar,” he said.He said that about 70 miscreants pelted stones on police/security forces deployment at Ajas, in the jurisdiction of Police Station Sumbal. “There are no reports of injury to anybody so far,” he said.
