Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Abdul Haq Tuesday stressed on effective implementation of UMEED scheme aimed to enable the under privileged women not only to come out of the poverty but uplift their socio-economic status in their communities.The Minister said this while reviewing the progress of the scheme in a meeting held today which was attended by Mission Director J&K State Rural Livelihood Mission and other officers.The Minister was informed that UMEED scheme is extended in 4 new districts during current fiscal and 22 new blocks are being covered to benefit the more deserving population. He was further informed that target of 6290 new self help groups has been fixed this year by involving 80 thousand females to make them able to earn their livelihood with dignity and honour.

The meeting was further informed that 300 new automatic milk collection centers have been targeted for current fiscal in addition to 27 already established to boost the rural economy and employment opportunities.The Minister was also informed that under Prime Minister  Bima Yojna and Prime Minister Surakhsha Yojna 45000 females are being provided insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh at nominal premiumAbdul Haq urged women of the State to come into the fold of NRLM  to earn livelihood with dignity and honour. He said the Scheme will not only help women in engaging themselves in earning livelihood but will also contribute in the overall development of society.
