The Congress today accused Police of beating Congress Activists at Chenar Ganderbal and sought stern punishment to involved personnel. The Party also blamed the Police of harassing common and innocent person and asked the Govt to put an end to beating of common people and political activists by Police personnel deployed to maintain peace.The Party Spokesperson while accusing police personnel of beating Congress Activists Showket Zargar and his two accomplices who were travelling from Kangan to Ganderbal asked the State Govt to clarify its position on the issue of beating political persons and common people by the State Police.The Spokesperson said that the Party activists Showket Zargar accompanied by two workers were stopped by police personnel posted at Chenar Ganderbal yesterday, but when they produced their identification cards to police personnel they got exasperated to know that they were Congress Activists started hurling abuses and beat them ruthlessly, which is not only highly condemnable, but shameful act on the part of Police and warrants immediate probe.

They party Spokesperson demanded stern action against the involved police personnel, who have demonstrated their irresponsible attitude towards common people and asked the State Govt and Police Higher Ups to identify the personnel for severe punishment.The Spokesperson also expressed concern over the harassment of common innocent people by police personnel and sought explanation from the Government.Stating that Police is for maintaining law and order, besides ensuring peaceful atmosphere, although they (Police) do perform their duties in difficult situations, but they don’t have the license to beat or harass people for no reasons, Spokesperson said.He said that it has become a habit on the part of police personnel to deny their involvement in any kind of indiscipline after being getting involved in indiscipline, but the Congress Party shall lodge a strong protest, if the action is not taken against the involved personnel.Demanding immediate severe punishment to involved personnel, the Spokesperson said that some indisciplined personnel in the department bring bad name to whole Police department by their actions and behavior and emphasized the need to keep a check and identify those personnel inorder to maintain discipline thereby ensuring safety of commoners.
