Lending its support to the Rotary District 3190 for its annual blood donation drive, CREDAI Bengaluru offered a large space in the centrally located Barton Centre with the support of Barton centre management on August 4th, 2016. One of the 15 venues across the district that hosted the blood donation drive, Barton Centre saw over 200 people donate blood. This helped contribute immensely to the Rotary District attempt at breaking the Guinness Book of Records for the most number of people to sign up to donate blood in 8 hours at multiple venues.Statistics have shown that one person requires a blood transfusion every two minutes in Bengaluru. Almost 90% of expectant mothers require a transfusion during their deliveries.Of the blood that is collected, there is usually a shortage of more than 20% which can be a deciding factor in cases of life and death. With the increase in the number of dengue in the city, the demand for platelets from blood is on the rise and the city often finds it difficult to meet these demands.

Speaking on the participation of CREDAI Bengaluru in this blood donation drive and Guinness World Record attempt, Suresh Hari, Secretary, CREDAI Bengaluru says, “The city is unable to cope with the demand for blood at present and such drives are the need of the hour. With Barton Center being centrally located in a prime commercial area, we hoped to encourage more people to come and sign up to donate to this noble cause initiated by the Rotary Clubs and we have succeeded considerably well in that”.The drive was supported by medical partners, leading blood banks including Rotary Bangalore TTK Blood Bank. Rotarians and Volunteers took turn to encourage donors for their effort and make the camp a grand success. The mega record breaking camp is the brain child of District Governor H .R. Ananth with a team of dedicated Rotarians.
