DC kicks off horticulture plantation prog

Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Shabir Ahmed Bhat today kick started horticulture plantation programme under MIDH scheme by planting a sapling at Doongi block in Rajouri.In the day-long campaign, more than 250 saplings of mosambi, kinnow and oranges were planted over an area of 20 kanal.Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner appealed to the farmers to come forward and take benefit of various state and centrally sponsored programmes being run by the government for their welfare. “The horticulture development will increase the green cover of the region besides providing employment opportunities to unemployed youth,” he added."Our development should not be at the cost of the environment and we should remember to hand over to our coming generations a clean and green environment," the DC said.

Pertinent to mention that the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) is a centrally sponsored scheme launched by Government of India for the holistic development of horticulture sector in the country. The scheme aims to provide employment opportunities to the farmers beside improving the green cover in the country and maintaining the ecological balance. Additional District Development Commissioner GS Chib, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Paramjeet Singh and Chief Horticulture Officer Kirtan Singh also accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the plantation drive.
