Strongly criticizing the silence of United Nations with regard to continuous killing of innocent civilians the latest being the gruesome murder of 24-year-old Riyaz Ahmad Shah of Chattabal with so-called "non-lethal pellet guns" and Farooq Ahmad Kuchay of Lethpora in indiscriminate firing besides critical injuries to dozens others, Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq Wednesday termed these acts as naked barbarism and state terrorism of the worst kind. Mirwaiz said that if the UN cannot stop the killing of the oppressed weak by the powerful and influential oppressor it should close shop or announce that it is an organization of the powerful and influential and for the powerful and influential and those that do not fall is this league cease to exist for them.Hurriyat (M) Chairman, who continues to be under house arrest for past 26 days, while talking to Riyaz’s father and his bereaved family over phone, amid teary eyes consoled the family and paid glowing tributes to Riyaz and said that martyrs live forever in the collective conscience of their nation and it is from them that a nation struggling for freedom and justice derives its inspiration and strength. Saluting the sacrifice of tens of thousands of people who had offered their lives for the cause for which the nation is once again striving and suffering he said that peoples resolve Inshallah will bear fruit.

Mirwaiz said it is sad that the land of Buddha, Ashoka and Gandhi who propagated Ahinsa and whose people pride themselves of this legacy, is carrying out massacre of innocents so unapologetically. Today even those in India who call themselves the champions of human rights or the civil society are maintaining a criminal silence. Warning that the spark neglected in Kashmir could turn into a dangerous ammunition dump for entire South Asia, he said peaceful public protests were continuing in south and north Kashmir and every nook and corer of the Valley and people were raising pro-Azadi and pro-Islam slogans despite curfew, restrictions and curbs with the freedom-loving people in general and youth, children and womenfolk in particular making their pro-freedom aspirations known.Hurriyat (M) Chairman said today entire world was witness to the fact that people of Kashmir themselves were carrying forward their resistance movement and when people stand up for their basic right of right to self-determination, nobody on the earth had the power to stop them.Condemning stopping the family and friends of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik from meeting him at Central Jail Srinagar, where he has been placed under arrest, he said government was indulging in politics of revenge which is deplorable but not unexpected of them.
