Though the situation continues to remain tense in Kashmir Valley since July 9, the separatist leaders continue to languish in different police stations while some among them are placed under house detention. The separatist leaders including Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JLF) chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chief, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Hurriyat (G) spokesman, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Mehraj-ud-din Kalwal, Imtiyaz Haider and others continue to remain under police custody from past 24 days.JKLF chief who was detained on July 9 and was lodged in Police Station Kothi Bagh was a few days back shifted to Srinagar’s central Jail while DFP chief, who was also detained by the police and continue to languish in Police Station Raj Bagh while the several other leaders and activists who were detained ever since July 9 are languishing in different police stations across the Valley.

Both the factions of Hurriyat, JKLF and other pro-freedom amalgams have condemned the continuous detention of incarcerated leaders and activists.Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq, Hurriyat (M) spokesman, Shahid-ul-Islam and Anjuman Shari Shian president, Aga Syed Hasan Almosvi Alsafvi continue to remain under house detention. However, Geelani and Mirwiaz in previous month defied the restrictions thrice to march towards Anantnag, Kulgam and Jamia Masjid Srinagar on July 25, 27, 29 respectively but police foiled their attempt and detained them. “After spending some hours in police custody, police released both the leaders,” reports said. The leadership including Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik have been issuing protest programmes through a joint statement and have been appealing people to follow the programmes strictly.

Meanwhile, strict curfew in two South Kashmir districts and restrictions in Anantnag town and in parts of Srinagar continue on 25th consecutive day today. The curfew and restrictions as per officials were imposed to thwart any possible protests against the civilian killings in Kashmir who were killed during protests against the killing of Hizb commander, Burhan Wani in a ‘gunfight’ in Bumdoora village of Kokernag in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on July 8.At least 50 civilians were killed while more than 2200 civilians have sustained injuries during the protests across Kashmir.
