Criticizing DG CRPF for his statement on use of pellet guns in Kashmir, CPI (M) leader, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami wondered whether the political writ of Union Home Minister, who has recently asked the security forces to restrain from using pellets on protesters, was in place. In a statement issued to KNS, Tarigami said that such utterances of the security apparatus is dangerous and amounts to erosion of the political authority of the dispensation.

Tarigami said that use of pellet guns in Kashmir has caused havoc and more than hundred young boys have lost their eyesight. It was unacceptable that even if Home Minister of India after acknowledging the fact that pellets have darkened the world of more than hundred young boys, an official from CRPF would debate lethal and non-lethal nature of pellets. “Whether lethal, least-lethal or non-lethal, the fact is that pellets have caused grave injuries to hundreds of young boys and of course has gravely injured the Kashmir psyche” Tarigami said.He said that use of brutal force against protesters on whatever pretext was simply unacceptable.
