The BJP Sunday said it agreed with President Pranab Mukherjee that anarchy cannot replace governance, and termed it significant he touched on the topic in his address to the nation on the eve of Republic Day."I totally agree with the president. In independent India, people have faith in the system, and people know that if these systems are destroyed, the country will break down," Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh told reporters here."The dignity of country's system should not be hurt by the anarchist ways," he said, in a apparent reference to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who had described himself an "anarchist".Mukherjee, in his speech, said "populist anarchy" cannot be a "substitute for governance".He also stressed on the need for a stable government after the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, adding that the fractured mandate would be "catastrophic for the nation".

Welcoming Mukherjee's comment, the BJP president said: "I welcome the statement... unless we have a stable government, we cannot fight the problems the country is facing. We need a government that will give good governance." Veteran BJP leader L. K. Advani also said it was "significant" that Mukherjee found it imperative to speak against "populist anarchy" in his address. He however declined to comment any further."I will only say that on today's occasion, I will not comment on anybody even though it is significant, more so as the president found it necessary to comment on this," he said.
