Tourism Industry is the backbone of Kargil economy and Council is taking keen interest in boosting this industry by developing more and more tourism infrastructure at all the unexplored tourist destination of the district. This was stated by Chairman & Chief Executive Councillor Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil, Haji Mohammad Haneefa Jan while chairing a review meeting of Tourism department held at Council Secretariat here today.The Executive Councillor for PWD & Tourism Ghulam Rasool Naqvi, the Executive Councillor for Rural Development Syed Abass Rizvi, the Executive Councillor for Health Mohsin Ali, the Executive Councillor for Handicraft Tsering Angdus and Assistant Director Tourism Kargil Syed Towha Aga was present on the occasion.During the meeting Assistant Director Tourism Kargil informed the Hon’ble Chairman that high inflow of tourist has been observed in the District and record breaking numbers of tourist have visited despite the ongoing unrest in Kashmir Valley.
The CEC Haji Mohammad Haneefa Jan expressed satisfaction over the matter and described it as result of the efforts initiated by the LAHDC in promoting Kargil as a tourism destination across the country during winter.It was decided in the meeting that the Kargil Festival which was scheduled to be organized on 23rd of July 2016 will be postponed in view of the prevailing situation in Kashmir Valley. Further it was also decided to organize the Fame tour which was proposed to be organized by the LAHDC in the month of July for promoting the Tourism sector of District after 15 August due to the Kashmir unrest.Haji Haneefa Jan asked the Tourism department to intensify effort to complete and handover the Tourism related infrastructure at an earliest possible moment. In the meeting it was agreed and decided that a review meeting will be held shortly for finalizing the dates for Kargil Festival, Fame Tour and Apricot Festival with the concerned Head of the departments for arriving at consensus.
