Cop killed in South Kashmir

A cop was killed after suspected militants attacked a police station in South Kashmir on Friday. Reports said that at least 7 policemen were wounded when unidentified persons after lobbing a grenade fired upon policemen posted at police station Yaripora in  South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.Police sources told CNS that unidentified persons tossed a grenade inside police station Yaripora that exploded with a bang in the premises, creating panic inside the station. Shortly after grenade attack suspected militants fired upon the policemen wounding at least seven of them. “Seven cops were wounded in the attack who were airlifted in a chopper to 92 base Army hospital Srinagar. One of them later succumbed to his injuries,” he said and identified the wounded cops as Farooq Ahmed, Khursheed Ahmed, Mushtaq Ahmed, Tariq Ahmed and Mushtaq Ahmed.Rejecting the police version, the locals at Yaripora said that the cops were wounded  after the explosive material  they were carrying went off , “ There was  no firing at all,” they said.Yaripora Kulgam witnessed violent clashes on Friday where agitated protesters set Panchayat Ghar and Tehsil Office on fire. Some protesters received injuries and were shifted to hospitals for treatment. (CNS)
