Director Information and Public Relations Dinesh Malhotra stressed upon using social media to reach out to the people especially youth of the state for highlighting the achievements of the state as well as for generating awareness about various social issues like drug abuse, female foeticide etc.He was addressing a meeting of District Public Relations Officers of the department here today.Shri Malhotra said that social media was acquiring importance day by day and has an outreach to most of the population. He directed the officers to make their presence felt on social sites like facebook, twitter etc for enhancing their efficiency. He stressed upon speedy dissemination of news as well as policies and programmes of the State Government to every nook and corner of the State so that people could be made aware of the various welfare schemes being implemented.
While doing so, he directed the officers to feed the media with adequate photo and video coverage also.Underlining the importance of media in disseminating the information, Shri Malhotra urged the officers for maintaining cordial relations with the media persons and added that data bank of department should be updated on regular basis. He directed the officers to strengthen feature service and success stories through print and electronic media. He said that publications of the department were effective medium for reaching out to the public and asked the officers to ensure their proper distribution among the masses.
He said that efforts would be made to strengthen the department by technical upgradation in order to keep pace with the modern technological advancement in the field of media and publicity.Earlier, he also presided over the first meeting of the State level Monitoring Committee to monitor preparedness of local cable operators/multi system operators and the progress of digitization.He urged the local cable operators/multi system operators to switch over to the digital mode from existing analogue mode.
He asked them to complete digitization of all the cable TV connections by 31stDecember,2016. He said that with the completion of this digitization process, the infrastructure would facilitate in providing three facilities i.e broadband for internet, television signal and telephony thereby strengthening the e-Services in the state .Member Secretary of the Committee and Deputy Director I&PR Sh U C Kaundal conducted the proceedings.Additional Director Shri R S Negi, Joint Directors, Cable Operators and DPROs were present in the meeting.
