A top Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant among three militants were killed in an encounter with government forces at Kokernag area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Friday.A police officer told GNS that army, SOG and CARGO from Srinagar launched a cordon-and-search operation at village Kokernag in the southern district.The forces according to the officer, opened few warning shots towards the suspected house at Kawpora Kokernag  resulted into an encounter. "The house belonged to Farooq Wani S/O Ghulam Mohd Wani".In the ensuing gunfight, three militants including top HM militant Burhan Wani were killed.Two more slain militants have been identified as Massom shah of Srigufra and Sartaj of Sheikh Taki mohalla in Kokernag.Soon after the news about the killing of Burhan Wani spread in Kashmir Valley, youth took to streets at Kokernag and other sensitive parts of Kashmir and staged strong protests against the killing.Reports of protests were received from Tral, the native place of Burhan Wani, Awantipora, Nowhatta, Palhallan, Trehgam, Lalpora and Sopore.
