Street vendors on Monday staged protest against the government for not allowing them to conduct their business on the streets of business hub Lal Chowk.Hundreds of street vendors assembled at main road of business hub near clock tower and were chanting anti-administration slogans. The street vendors said that earlier the sudden crackdown by the police left them without any income for several days, adding that, “Government should now allow us to conduct business at our previous place for these two days,” they demanded. They said that the place they have been given is not suitable for them especially for Eid days thereby resulted in immense hardships to them.Vendors said that the cal, lopus attitude of the government towards them has left them jobless. “Most of the vendors are young sole breadwinners of their families. Such behaviour of the government will surely push us to anti-social activities,” they said. They said that they support the efforts of authorities to ensure smooth movement of traffic on roads. “However, our concern is that we must be provided suitable place to earn our livelihood especially for these days,” said Ishfaq Ahmad a protesting street vendor.“We appeal government to look into our hardships and redress our genuine grievances at earliest,” street vendors appealed. The protesters after police assurance disperse peacefully.
