Police on Monday foiled the protest of All Jammu and Kashmir Temporary Teachers Association and detained scores of its members after they tried to march towards civil secretariat. The protesters assembled here at Srinagar’s press enclave and were raising slogans like ‘save youth save nation, we want continuation’. They were demanding continuation of their services. The protesting teachers said that they were engaged in the department on temporary basis and served the department very honestly. “We appeal authorities to look into the hardships of educated youth and extend our services,” they said. They said that they were earlier promised that they will be engaged permanently in the department but unfortunately nothing has been done in this regard.“Our service period is on the verge to end. Authorities should immediately redress the problem of temporary teachers by extending services,” they said.Meanwhile, the protesters later tried to march towards civil secretariat. As soon as the protesters came out from press enclave to march towards civil secretariat, police intercepted them and detained scores of its members.
