A meeting of Legislators and Senior Office bearers of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee was held today in the Srinagar.The meeting was presided over by JKPCC Chief G.A. Mir.MLAs, MLCs & Senior Party functionaries from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh attended the meeting.The meeting, threadbare, discussed the overall socio political scenario obtaining in the State, besides deliberating on the just concluded Anantnag By-Elections. Many important issues of public interest also came under discussion.Deliberating on the Panchayti Raj Amendment Bill which was passed today in the Legislative Assembly, the meeting accused the Coalition Govt of taking benefit of the majority in the house and blamed the Coalition of conspiring to undermine the authority of PRIs to gain political mileage.Reiterating Congress Party’s commitment to defend the PRIs and strengthen other democratic Institutions, the meeting resolved that Congress Party in order to ensure the overall development of the state, shall continue to fight for strengthening the PRIs and other democratic institutions directly benefitting the common people at grass roots level, Congress Party won’t tolerate any kind of political interference in these Institutions, the meeting resolved.

The meeting also accused the Coalition Govt of conspiring to manipulate the elections to the Panchayati Raj bodies especially that of sarpanchs which is indicative of the ill intentions of the present Govt. to dilute the authority of grass institution of democracy for personal benefit.Discussing the recently concluded Anantnag By-Election, besides the dubious role played and violation of Model Code of Conduct on the part of PDP BJP Coalition, the meeting blamed the Govt of using official machinery and other methods to secure votes in the Elections and sought clarity from the Govt over the issue.The meeting also deliberated on the unsealed EVMs, which were found during counting and urged upon the Election Commission of India to conduct a thorough probe into the issue, as the fair probe only can restore the faith of people in the democratic system.Discussing the current Assembly Session, the meeting expressed satisfaction over the constructive role being played by the Party in the Legislature and vowed to remain committed to play the role of constructive opposition. The meeting also vowed to remain committed to the cause of serving people to the best of its ability.

Castigating the Govt for failing to rehabilitate the flood victims of 2014, regularization of casual labours working in different Departments and the ration issue, which is still unresolved, the meeting took a strong notice of the utter failure of the Govt on all fronts and blamed it for ignoring the genuine demands of the people.Praising the MLAs and MLCs of the party for highlighting the genuine demands of the people in the Legislature with great enthusiasm, the meeting extolled the Members for raising the issues concerning people with a view to seek their resolution. It was also resolved that Congress Party shall make the Govt responsive, accountable and answerable to the needs of the people and shall continue to fight for seeking fulfillment of the promises made with the people on the part of PDP BJP Coalition after seeking votes.
