Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar today said that Kashmir has a distinct culture which enshrines the teachings of great sufi saints imbibing secular characteristics to the society.The Minister said this while addressing Majlis-e-Naat organized by S.P College, here today.The Minister congratulated the Principal, with staff and students of the college for successfully organizing the event despite constraints of time and resources. He also appreciated the talented performers for enkindling a mystical and spiritual aura through the renditions of great Sufi poets.The event was attended by several legislators and various dignitaries from the government and academics including Deputy Speaker Lagislative Assembly, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi and Vice Chancellor Kashmir University, Dr. Khurshied Iqbal Andrabi.Various artists including Waheed Jeelani, Kaiser Nizami, Raja Bilal, Aijaz Rah and Muneer Ahmad Mir performed in the in the majlis.Earlier the college also organized Inter-College Naat competition which saw an overwhelming response from twenty eight government colleges of the valley including the distant colleges of Tangdhar in north and Dooru in south. The top positions were bagged by Ms. Aaliya Khaliq of GDC Pampore, Mr. Irfan Ahmad Dar of S.P College Srinagar and Mr. Mohammad Mudassir of GDC Sumbal.The Principal, S.P College said that the aim of organizing such events is to explore the talent of students and to provide them a platform for refining and sculpting their skills.
