Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development, Ms. Asiea Naqash today said that as per the provision of Municipal Corporation Act 2000 section 315 (2), no place other than Municipal slaughter House can be used as slaughter House, therefore, any slaughtering outside the Municipal Slaughter House is unauthorized and While replying to a calling attention notice of Mohammad Khursheed Alam, the Minister said Srinagar Municipal Corporation runs one small service slaughter House in Rainawari Srinagar where animals are slaughtered under proper supervision and as per hygienic protocol.Ms. Asiea Naqash, however, said that due to non-availably of modern slaughter House/Abattoir, butchers across the city slaughter their animals in their private slaughtering places within their premises. But due to the non-availability of a Modern abattoir, all of them cannot be closed down till a modern abattoir is constructed in Srinagar.To ensure proper hygienic and drainage protocols are followed, periodical inspections of these private slaughtering places is being conducted and in addition health status of animals being slaughtered at these places is strictly checked, she added.
Animals imported from outside the state are being inspected at different live stock check posts, one at Qazigund-Zig run by State Animal Husbandry Department and the other at Athwajan run by Srinagar Municipal Corporation, she added.To ensure quality and hygienic meat, Srinagar Municipal Corporation with the assistance of Ministry of Food Processing Industries, GoI, is establishing one Modern Abattoir at Allochi Bagh, Srinagar which shall cater to the demands of entire city with a capacity to slaughter about 5,000 small animals daily at a project cost of Rs. 24.52 crore, Minister informed In order to minimize and control the availability of non-veg food to stray dogs the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Urban Local Bodies, Kashmir are trying to put an efficient garbage management system in place which includes, closing of garbage sheds, collection of poultry offal from poultry outlets, deployment of special garbage collection vehicles from Hotels/Restaurants/ Households, placement of dumper bins in the marriage ceremonies, deployment of additional compactors, Dumper placers, Garbage collection light vehicle, Tippers, Land dozers, Hoper vehicles, introduction of twin colored smart garbage bins and introduction of closed lid Garbage bins are being utilized in near future, she added.
