Speaker Mr Kavinder Gupta along with other members on Tuesday paid rich tributes to former MLA and member of the Constituent Assembly, Peerzada Ghulam Jeelani in the House here, who passed away yesterday after brief illness.Giving a brief introduction about his political career, the Speaker said that late Jeelani started his political career at an early age and was elected Halqa President Pampore National Conference. He also served Chairman, Town Area Committee Pampore. He was delegate and Member of the General Council Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. He remained also as President Co-operative Union, Pampore and Cooperative Society, Pampore. He was also Member District Cooperative Central Bank, Anantnag. He was elected Member of Jammu and Kashmir Constituent Assembly in 1951 and was its only surviving Member. He was elected as Member J&K Legislative Assembly in 1957 and re-elected as such in 1962. He also served as Member J&K Legislative Council from 1967 to 1972. He served the people of his Constituency throughout his political career for which he will be always remembered.Later the House also observed two minute silence to pay homage to the departed leader.
