Police on Monday foiled the protest of Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) and detained scores of its members who tried to march towards Srinagar’s city centre Lal Chowk. The protesters were protest against Finance Minister, Haseeb Drabu for his statement over Alcohol. The protesters led by Farooq Ahmad assembled at Srinagar’s press enclave and were raising anti-government slogans. The protesters said that it seems that the government by making such kind of statements are favouring use of Alcohol in the state. “The government should either close down the drug de-addiction centre or should impose a ban on it. The government is conducting both the things in one boat, which is result will sink without any favourable result,” they said. They said that the government should stop making such kind of statements otherwise they will stage valley wide agitation in this regard for which the government will be held responsible.“The statement is against the aspirations of the people here and the finance minister should apologize for making such kind of statements,” he said, adding that the government should stop such kind of ‘behaviour’ as Kashmir is the Valley of saints. As soon as the protesters tried to march towards city centre Lal Chowk, police intercepted them and detained scores among them.
