Union Food processing industry minister Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal today hailed the decision of union railway ministry to develop coaching cum maintenance facilities at Chheharta railway station at a cost of Rs. 42 crore besides approving construction of 37 limited height subways and installation of 17 lifts and 10 escalators at 6 stations in the state.Expressing gratitude over the decisions of the railway minister Mr Suresh Prabu for improving the basic facilities at various stations in the state, Mrs Badal said creation of coaching cum maintenance facilities at Chheharta station would certainly decongest the Amritsar station which is only 7 km from holy city on Attari line. Under this plan, electrification from Amritsar to Chheharta station and construction of two platforms would also be completed, she added.
Mrs Badal said railway minister has also approved to construct 37 limited height subways in the state to ease the traffic on various busy roads. Giving more details she informed that 10 such subways would be built at Ambala-Ludhiana section in Patiala, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib and Ludhiana districts, 4 in Sangrur on Jakhal-Dhuri line, 7 in Bathinda on Mansa-Bathinda line and Kartar Singh Wala-Bathinda Cantt bye-pass line.In addition to this 4 subways would also be built in Jalandhar district on Phillaur-Lohian Khas line, 6 subways in Ferozepur at Jalandhar-Ferozepur line, one each in Barnala and Fazilka districts besides 4 in Rupnagar on Sirhind-Nagal Dam railway line.She further added that 17 lifts and 10 escalators would also be installed at Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Jalandhar city and Jalandhar cant, Amritsar and Beas stations which would provide sufficient relief to the passengers to board the trains easily.
