The Punjab Minister for Revenue, Rehabilitation, Information and Public Relations Bikram Singh Majithia said that he had been deeply pained over what he described as “ill-informed, ill conceived and most unfortunate” statement of Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde about the Peace Memorial for the 1984 tragedy in the holiest of the holy shrines, Sri Harmandar Sahib." This statement, has clearly been issued without studying the details of the monument project and it is clear that he has not been properly briefed and in fact been informed.“The Congress party is raising a hue and cry over a purely religious issue of peace monument only to pert the people’s attention from the mind-boggling scams that have hit the UPA. “Now that the flames of scams have reached the Royal Palace of the Gandhis through exposure of scams of Robert Vadra, the Congress party’s desperation has crossed all limits and it has been driven into this mindless opposition of a spiritual monument. Ther statements are shocking for their lack of sensitivity towards the religious sentiments of the Sikh community.” said Majithia in a statement here this evening. Majithia said that Punjab today is led by a visionary statesman like Mr Parkash SIngh Badal who has made supreme sacrifices and spent 15 years in jails in free India fighting for peace, human dignity, human rights and who considers communal harmony as his greatest achievement in life Majithia, who is also the president of the Youth Akali Dal, said that the whole world knows that the memorial would be a spiritual monument. It will not be inpidual centric but will be pinely inspired by the presence of Holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib in it and by love that conquers all enmity and ill will. Do they not know that Guru Granth Sahib is an embodiment of the spirit of Sarbat Da Bhala. “Therefore, it is shocking that the Congress party and its leaders were still deliberately indulging in a vilification campaign over this monument which will symbolize and spread the pine message of love, peace and human brotherhood as enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib. “What is the Congress party’s case on the issue really? Are they telling that whole world that a monument which has Sri Guru Granth Sahib as its inspirational core will preach hatred, violence and terrorism? Is this the Congress party’s official view about Guru Granth Sahib and the Sikh religious places of worship? Has their desperation reached a level at which they have gone completely berserk in their opposition of the Sikh faith? asked Majithia. Majithia said that it was this mindset because of which the Congress government in 1984 had committed the cardinal sin of ordering an army assault on the abode of peace, pine love and spiritual enlightenment. That mindset is till persisting, and the Congress party and its leadership were now busy in a vilification campaign against the spiritual monument.Majithia took on Captain Amarinder Singh, daring him to clarify his stand on the army assault. “If he thinks building a peace monument against Operation Blue Star is wrong, then why had he enacted the drama of resigning from the Congress party in protest against this very operation? Captain Amarinder Singh should also clarify his stand on the innocents killed in 1984, said Majithia . Majithia said that it was surprising and unbelievable that the Union Home Minister and the PPCC president were both opposing a monument which will symbolize the message of peace, communal harmony and human brotherhood as enshrined in the Holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib, transcending narrow communal, sectarian or ideological and political differences. By doing so, the Congress party was in fact opposing the ideals enshrined in Guru Granth Sahib.
