Police foil separatists' joint protest, Clashes erupt in Maisuma

Police Saturday foiled sit-in organized jointly by the separatist leaders including Hurriyat (G), Hurriyat (M) and JKLF.Led by JKLF chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik, the leaders and activists assembled outside the JKLF headquarter and raised anti-government and anti-India slogans.The protest was organized against the establishment of Sainik, Pandit colonies and against the shifting of a local youth to Kot bhalwal jail who was arrested a few months back.Nonetheless, police resorted to tear smoke shells and dispersed the joint sit-in protest organized jointly by separatists.Meanwhile, clashes erupted between youth and forces in Maisuma area of Srinagar.The youth took to streets and raised pro-freedom slogans. “Police resorted to tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters who were throwing stones on them,” locals said.

Meanwhile, a spontaneous shutdown was also observed in the area against the detention of a local youth who was arrested by the police a few months back. All the shops and business establishments were closed while the private vehicles was off the roads.The protesters mostly youth burnt tyres on the mid of the road while demanding an immediate release of Ashiq Hussain alias (Ashqee Kaala) who was detained by the police a few months ago.The protesters told KNS that police slapped Public Safety Act (PSA) on Ashiq and are planning to shift him to Kot bhalwal jail. “The PSA slapped on him should be revoked and should be immediately released,” he said.
