Various educational institutions, Government departments, social organizations, NCC units today celebrated 2nd International Yoga Day with vigour and enthusiasm.Nehru Yuva Kendra in collaboration with district administration and AYUSH observed “International Day of Yoga” at Sports Stadium Kathua.Deputy Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion.Additional District Development Commissioner, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Additional Superintendant of Police, Khalil Ahmed Poswal besides various other dignitaries and senior officers attended the programme.The DC said that today the people of 177 countries are celebrating Yoga day for bringing in peace and harmony in their lives. He appealed the people especially youth to adopt Yoga in their routine life as mental health is the basis of a strong physical health which is pre-requisite for peace and prosperity of a society.A large number of persons from all walks of life, Youth Clubs, Mahila Mandals, Patanjali Yog, various social, religious, yoga and meditation organizations, NGOs, education institutions and Police Training Schools participated in the yoga session.Som Datt Zard, DYC, NYK Kathua highlighted the importance of the day saying that tradition of 5000 years old Vedic period and 21st century modern India is coming together for welfare and wellbeing of mankind all over world.

Meanwhile, various Yoga sessions were held in different parts of Udhampur to mark the celebrations.Nehru Yuva Kendra commemorated the celebration at Jagriti Old  Age Home and Bal Ashram in Deputy Commissioner Niraj Kumar was the chief guest.Highlighting the importance of Yoga , the DC said that the art of practicing yoga helps in controlling an individual's mind, body and soul. He further said that the Yoga helps in managing stress and anxiety.Later, he also visited Goverdhan palace where a yoga session was held by Patanjali  Yog Samiti. Meanwhile, Government College for Women, Parade, Jammu commemorated the programme in the college auditorium.Principal, Dr. Renu Goswami, emphasized the importance of Yoga in today’s exhausted life. She appealed the students to make Yoga as an integral part of their routine activities for a healthier life as the onus of creating a strong nation depends on them.  The students, staff and the Principal performed some basic Asanas to mark the celebration.A yoga camp was also organized at Zorawar Singh Stadium Reasi. District Development Commissioner Reasi Ravinder Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion while Senior Superintendent  of Police Sujit Kumar was the  guest of honor. 

Many officers of different departments ,school children, women and prominent citizens participated in the programme.The DDC highlighted the importance of yoga saying that yoga is an invaluable gift of India to the world which brings harmony in all walks of life besides helping disease prevention, health promotion and management of stress, anxiety and many lifestyle related disorders.   Similarly, the yoga day was organized at Accidental Hospital Ghagwal in which officers and officials of the hospital led by Dr Arun Sharma Incharge and Dr Sandeep Raina Incharge Medical Officer participated. A large number of locals from took part in the programme.The Cadets of NCC Directorate celebrated the ‘International Day of Yoga’ in which 9626 Cadets participated at more than 15 venues. The performance of yoga by the cadets was part of the, pan India eventLikewise, the event was celebrated in Central Jail Jammu  Kot Bhalwal where the  Jail Inmates, staff, CRPF  staff, officers and officials participated in the programme.The event was organised under the supervision  of Director  General  of  Police, Prisons  J&K  Dr. S. P. Vaid.

Senior Superintendent Jail  Dinesh  Sharma , Jail Inmates and  staff  participated in the programme.Similarly, Ramban district administration organised a programme to observe the day at   Maitra Park, Ramban. A 45 minute yoga session was organised by Dr. Masood Zargar and   yoga instructors of Patangli Yoga Peeth.Similar Yoga camps were held at Batote, Ukhral and BVM High School, Ramban where staff members along with their families and stakeholders of the institutions participated.
