Punjab Education Minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema today said that Punjab would soon be launching "Vidya TV", a dedicated TV channel showing educational content for the benefit of school going children. He said that with the launch of this channel, Punjab would become the first state having such a set up. He said that work on this channel is in its last stages and it is likely that the TV channel would be launched in one month's time.Dr Cheema was speaking to media persons after laying the foundation stone of a Government Primary School in Sector 39 area of the city today. This particular school would be two-storied and would be constructed with a cost of Rs 2 crore and would be completed in one year's time. "Classes in this particular school would start from next academic session onwards," said Dr Daljit Singh Cheema.He said that the Punjab government, under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal is committed for strengthening education in the state. 

He said that is why, this time, 31 students from government run Meritorious Schools have cracked the prestigious exam for admission in IIT's and said that many others are expected to clear exams in medical and commerce stream.While giving more details about Vidya TV, Dr Cheema said that it would be a round-the-clock education channel and it would provide quality content to those preparing for competitive examinations as well as middle school. It will begin with focus on higher classes like the X and XII. But gradually, it will include those from middle school as well. This channel would present the recorded lectures from the experts on various subjects.Dr Daljit Singh Cheema also congratulated Ludhiana East MLA Mr Ranjit Singh Dhillon, due to whose efforts the construction of this Government Primary School started. Dr Cheema was also honoured on the occasion.Prominent among those present on the occasion included MLA Mr Ranjit Singh Dhillon, SAD District Presidents Mr Madan Lal Bagga and Mr Harbhajan Singh Dang, Councillors Mr Pal Singh Grewal and Mr Sukhdev Singh Gill, Bibi Surinder Kaur Dyal, DEO (Primary) Mr Gurjot Singh, besides several others.
