Ahead of bringing legislation against polythene use, Abdul Haq Khan interacts with stakeholders

Minister for Law and Justice Abdul Haq today chaired a meeting of officers of line departments to discuss about the upcoming legislation to make use of polythene a cognizable offence.The meeting was attended by Chairman, State Pollution Control Board, Member Secretary, SPCB, Mission Director, NRLM besides representatives of milk production companies.The Minister said the government will introduce a Bill in current Budget session making the use of polythene a cognizable offence.  He said the government is going to act tough against the usage of polythene and will deal with the violators with iron fist. He also discussed with the officers and stakeholders about the alternatives to be used in place of polythene.Abdul Haq said that Government will come up with more strict laws against use of polythene in the state. He said the government cannot allow the state to get spoiled by use of polythene, adding that it has been the major cause of floods and is also polluting the beautiful valley.The Minister directed the officials to look into pros and cons before finalizing the piece of legislation and asked them to interact with stakeholders before its  finalization.While interacting with the representatives of the milk production companies, the Minister said every stakeholder dealing with packaging of polythene has the responsibility to re-collect the used poly bags used  for packaging of their products and re-cycle it.
