The killing of five civilians in Handwara Tuesday resonated in the Lower House as Independent MLA from Langate asked the government that the magisterial report about the killings has not been tabled in the House. The legislator reminded the LA Speaker, Kavinder Gupta, that he had assured on the first day of the ongoing session that the report will be presented within two days.Gupta said that the report will be presented in the House at “appropriate time”.The Speaker had on Monday said that the report will be tabled on Tuesday in the House.“Speaker Sahab, you had said the report will be presented today. Where is the report?” he said, adding, “The government is taking House for granted. We want to know who have been guilty behind the killing of five youth in Kupwara,”he said. This was for the third time Tuesday that the government did not table the report in the House, despite assurances by the Speakers to the Oppostion. The LA witnessed uproar and disrupted the inaugural speech of Governor N N Vohra at SKICC and had demanded tabling of the magisterial report about the civilian killings.Handwara witnessed massive clashes in the second week of April after alleged molestation of a girl by an army soldier on April 12. Five people were killed in firing by security forces during the protests. However, army, police and the girl herself had refuted the charges. The case is presently in the court. (KNS)
