Taking cognizance of the complaints filed by common people with regard to ‘substandard’ unpacked milk and curd being supplied in Kyber Agro Farms vehicle, Food Safety Department officials Saturday seized a milk supplying van and arrested its driver in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The milk van bearing registration number JK01L-3096 on which Khyber drawings are scribbled was seized by Food Safety Department when it stopped near Chattpora Pulwama with a purpose to supply unpacked milk and curd to a local shopkeeper. “The vehicle belongs to Khyber Agro Farms Private Limited but it is not clear yet whether milk too belongs to the company. We have seized the vehicle and samples from the unpacked milk and curd have been collected,” designated Officer Food Safety Pulwama Sony Singh told CNS and identified the driver of the van as Bilal Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Drangbal Pampore.
Another officer wishing not to be named said that every company has milk vans in which they supply milk.“The van belongs to Khyber. It is quite evident that driver was supplying the milk of the same company,” he said adding that everything will become clear once the investigation will be completed.Superintendent of Police Pulwama Mr Rayees Ahmed Bhat told CNS that Food Safety Department has written a letter to them in which they have narrated the episode stating that the department has not only seized the milk van but has also lifted the samples of loose curd and milk manufactured by Khyber Agro Farms Private Limited. “The Department has not asked us to register an FIR. We (Police) have a very little role in it, basically it is the food safety department that has to proceed in the matter,” Bhat said. (CNS)
