Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Saturday said that Kashmir students who are being trained by MBD group under Udaan Scheme outside J&K are being harassed and demanded the state government must ensure their safety.Omar said that the police of the state concerned is not taking any action for safety of the students. As soon as the Question House began in the Lower House, Omar rose from the Opposition Bench and said that he has got calls from the students outside about their harassment.“I got calls from people that students who are being trained by MBD group under Udaan project are facing harassment. Police is not taking any action or any notice of the harassment,” Omar said. However, he did not reveal the name of the place or state where the students are being harassed.“I will share the details with you (Speaker) about the incident. And I request you to ask the concerned officials to verify and take action,” he said.Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh, said that he had raised the issue of harassment of the students with Home Minister Rajnath Singh and chief ministers of the states to talk to students to restore confidence in them to work or study in other states.

About the incident that Omar raised, Singh said that the government will carry out immediate investigation and then will take action.Omar, who is the legislator from Beerwah, also raised the issue of water scarcity in Narbal area of his constituency. Residents in Narbal on Friday took to streets against drinking water shortage and blocked the Srinagar-Gulmarg highway for hours.Omar said that the water supply scheme in Narbal has been completed but the government is not inaugurating it. He said that in a DDB meeting held during the late chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s government, he was informed that the scheme has been commissioned.“But the scheme has not been thrown open yet. For inauguration by the minister, people of Narbal are being deprived of drinking water,” Omar said, adding, “I request the minister concerned to inaugurate the water supply scheme so that people get drinking water,” he said.To this Nirmal Singh said that the government will take immediate action to throw open the water supply scheme to address the water scarcity there.
