The World Class Floodlit Hockey Stadium under construction in Phase-9 would be completed by November 15 this year with a total cost of Rs. 41 crore, where the Pink and Blue Astroturf would be laid on the pattern of London Hockey stadiums. This was disclosed by PWD Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, who was reviewing the status of construction work along with the official of PWD. He said that the stadium would have the world class infrastructure in a total 12 acres of land. He said that the stadium would have a capacity of 50,000 spectators besides a reserved sitting capacity of 200 VVIPs. Answering the queries of media persons, Dhillon said that this world class stadium would be equipped with best sports infrastructure including hi-tech changing room, first aid room, dope testing laboratory, restaurant, gym, canteen, fully computerised office and VVIP and VIP Galleries. He said that special arrangements have also been made for power services in the stadium. Responding to a query, the Minister said that the SAD-BJP Government was fully dedicated to encourage the youth towards sports by providing them best sports infrastructure, facilities and jobs in various departments. He said that under the dynamic sports vision of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Punjab government has chalked out a special plan to motivate the children towards sports from their preliminary school days. He said that it was the result of SAD-BJP Government’s efforts that our mother sport Kabaddi has got acclaimed on International level. Dhillon said that on the pattern of SAS Nagar, the Punjab Government would also construct world class hockey stadiums at Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Faridkot and Bathinda. He said that 9 multipurpose floodlit stadiums were also under construction in the state. The Minister said that all the highways in the state would witness 4/6 lanes and the construction on some major roads would be started in this year. He said that the directions have also been issued to the concerned authorities to complete the remaining patch works by November 15.
