Hours after two policemen were killed in a militant attack in Anantnag the government said that it has taken up investigation into the attack.“2-3 unidentified gunmen attacked a police naka party at Bus Stand Islamabad. Two cops were injured who later succumbed to their injuries,” Minister for Rural Development, Abdul Haq Khan said in the Lower House Friday.The minister said that investigation has been taken up into the attack.Two policemen, identified as ASI Bashir Ahmad and Constable Riyaz Ahmad, were killed in an attack when motorcycle-borne gunmen opened fire on police party at the Bus stand in Anantnag town. The Bus stand is located just meters away from police post.Soon after the incident, the minister said that Director General of Police and other top cops reached the spot to assess the situation.This is the second attack after three BSF men were killed by militants on Friday when they fired on a Jammu-Srinagar bound convoy in Bijbehara in the district.Anantnag is slated to go for Assembly by-polls on June 22. The polls were necessitated after the death of former chief minister Late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed last year.Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is contesting in the by-polls against Congress and National Conference candidates. Independent MLA from Langate Er Rasheed is also contesting against the chief minister. (KNS)
