Commuters had to face tremendous hardships on Thursday after Narbal inhabitants blocked the main road of the area to protest against the water scarcity in their area.Eye-witnesses told KNS that hundreds of vehicles were seen stranded on Srinagar-Gulmarg road after the residents assembled at the main road to protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department.Inhabitants told KNS that the authorities are depriving them for safe drinking water from past ten days thereby leaving them to lurch at large. “We have been continuously pleading before the higher officials in this regard but unfortunately nothing has been done so far,” the protesting residents said. The protesters including women, children and men said that they are facing immense hardships from past ten days but the authorities hardly bother to redress the genuine demands of residents.Witnesses said that various picnic buses, tourists and passenger vehicles were seen stranded for hours together on Srinagar-Gulmarg road.An official of PHE department told KNS that water supply was hit as electricity was snapped on Wednesday. “The demands of protesting residents will be redressed soon,” he said.
