Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today paid rich tributes to the former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.Speaking on the obituary reference, moved in the Legislative Assembly, the Speaker said Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was a great politician, a true democrat and an acknowledged statesman who was acquainted with the art of adapting politics according to the needs and circumstances.  “Mufti Sahab was a sagacious politician and a visionary leader who throughout his political career strived hard for nourishment of secular and democratic values,” Mr Gupta said and added that Mufti Sahab was a man of principles who never hesitated to show dissent even at the cost of high positions.“Mufti Sahab was a champion of sustainable political dialogue between India and Pakistan in the interest of everlasting peace and prosperity in the subcontinent,” the Speaker said and added that he always advocated philosophy of political reconciliation. The services rendered by the late leader for the welfare and the development of the nation and the state will be always remembered by the generations to come, he said.

While paying tributes to the former Governor of the State Late General KV Krishna Rao, the Speaker recalled the significant contribution made by Gen Rao in early 90’s in restoring peace and democracy in the turmoil-hit State.“The remarkable contribution made by him on defence front besides the governance of various states in the country will always be remembered by the generations to come,” the Speaker said.The Speaker while paying rich tributes to former Union Minister and Parliamentarian, Late Balram Jakhar said he was a popular leader and his contribution towards enriching the parliamentary democracy in the country besides the social service will be remembered by the generations to come. Paying rich tributes to former Lok Sabha Speaker, P A Sangma, the Speaker said late Sangma will always be remembered for the outstanding political contribution rendered for the welfare of the people of the country in general and his State of Meghalaya in particular.The Speaker also paid tributes to former ministers Late Choudhary Lal Mohammad Sabir, late Mohammad Khalil Jowhar, late Dr Romesh Chander Sharma said that he was born on August 18, 1954 at Poonch, Late Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma and legislators late Sehdev Singh and late Mohammad Maqbool Muhjoo.Earlier, the Speaker moved the obituary reference in the House to pay tributes to all those parliamentarians, legislators and ministers who passed away during the intervening period of the autumn session-2015 and budget session-2016 of the state legislature.
