Haryana, Punjab get respite from heat wave after rain

Haryana and Punjab got a much-needed respite from heat wave conditions on Tuesday following thunderstorms and rainfall over the region in the past 24 hours.At most places in both states, the maximum temperatures hovered between 30 and 35 degrees.Patiala town in Punjab received nearly 45 mm rainfall while Ambala and Hisar in Haryana received 34 and 23 mm rain.High velocity winds and rainfall brought down the day temperature.In Chandigarh and other places, electricity wires and other facilities were damaged due to trees being uprooted and tree branches falling due to the storm.

Haryana's Hisar town, which sizzled at 47.8 degrees on Saturday, was a comfortable 35.2 degrees, six notches below the average.In the past week or more, most places in both states recorded maximum temperatures of over 41 degrees Celsius.Narnaul town in Haryana recorded a maximum temperature of 45 degrees.Chandigarh recorded a high of 32.5 degrees, five degrees below average.Sikh holy city Amritsar and industrial city Ludhiana in Punjab recorded 31 and 34 degrees each. Patiala saw a high of 32.9 degrees.
