Jammu and Kashmir Voluntary Health Association (JKVHA) in collaboration with Regional Red Cross Society Kashmir today organized an anti tobacco symposium at Govt. High School Bemina.The symposium was inaugurated by Executive Director JKVHA Ali Mohammed Mir who highlighted the importance and role of student community to bring down the rate of smoking in the state. Secretary, Regional Red Cross Society Kashmir Dr. Prof. Nusrat Andrabi, emphasized on students and staff of various schools to take a proactive anti-tobacco role. Food Inspector, from Drug and Food Control Organization Shabir Ahmed Lone gave a brief about the provisions of Tobacco Control Act (COTPA-2003) and responsibilities of Educational Institutions to implement the Act.Students from various schools presented their papers on the subject. Aqsa Afzal from Safvi Memorial Institute Mirgund, Zaheer Abbass from HPS Bemina and Sufiya Rashid from Shah-e-Hamdan School Bemina were declared first, second and third respectively in the debate.
