Heat wave conditions intensified in Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday with most places in both the states recording maximum temperatures over 43 degrees Celsius.Haryana's Hisar town was the hottest in the region at 46.8 degrees Celsius, five degrees above the season's average.Sikh holy city Amritsar was the hottest in Punjab with a high of 45 degrees Celsius.Ambala city in Haryana recorded a high of 43.7 degrees while Karnal recorded 43.8 degrees Celsius, weather department officials said here.Chandigarh recorded a high of 43.1 degrees, five degrees above the season's average.Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab recorded 44.6 and 44.4 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperature.Met officials said the heat wave will continue and weather will largely remain dry over the next five days.People complained of power failures and water scarcity in some areas in both the states.
