Dedicated to the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, all the Universities in the state would organise a series of seminars and academic discussions based on the life history of the great legend. The decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting convened under the chairmanship of Dr. Charanjit Singh Atwal Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha here today.Addressing the meeting, Dr. Atwal said that a large statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar would be installed in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Secretariat during an especially called Vidhan Sabha Session in October 2016. Besides this a number of events would be organised all across the state in the memory of the Bharat Rattan Dr. Ambedkar whose firm dedication in shaping the Constitution of India would be discussed during the series of seminars to be organised by all government and private Universities all over the state. His contribution in uplifting the down trodden, women empowerment etc. would also be conversed.Taking part in the deliberations, Mr. Gulzar Singh Ranike, Welfare of SC/BC and Animal Husbandry Minister appreciated the state government’s decision to celebrate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar in a big way and said that the youth of the state would derive inspiration by various aspects of the life of Dr. Ambedkar. After getting a final nod from the government of India, a special train from Punjab for the historical places related to Dr. Ambedkar in the country would also be started shortly, said the Minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jaspal Singh Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University Patiala said that books containing the details of the series of seminars and academic discussions on Dr. Ambedkar would be translated into Punjabi language. He said that it was the need of an hour that our youth get acquainted with our historical background and seek inspiration from the contribution of Dr. Ambedkar.Mr. Rajesh Bagha, Chairman Punjab State Scheduled Caste Commission said that modalities have been worked out to celebrate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar. It was a matter of great pride that galaxy of intellectuals, prominent scholars from India and Abroad have given their consent to be a part of the celebrations.Prominent among others who attended the meeting included, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Som Parkash, Principal Secretary Cultural Affairs, Ms. Anjali Bhawra, Director Mr. Navjot Randhawa, Special Secretary Welfare, Mr. H.K.Nagpal and senior officers of the concerned departments.
