Minutes before the Civil Secretariat was to be reopened and the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti was to be accorded guard of honour, state Congress Monday held protest against the PDP-BJP government. The Congress party, led by its state president G A Mir, were scheduled to gherao the secretariat for what they alleged failure of the government to govern after taking oath last month. However, they did not move ahead with their programme and stopped several meters ahead of their party headquarter at Moulana Azad road.Mir said that the Congress party were to protest to remind the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti of her of election promises when she sought votes from the people in Kashmir to keep BJP away.“Mehbooba Mufti is bringing the same RSS, VHP and BJP in Kashmir and imposing them on the same voters from whom she had sought votes to keep BJP and RSS away from Kashmir,” Mir told reporters .

“We wanted to remind Mehbooba Mufti that she sought votes from Kashmiris to keep BJP away from the state, but she is welcoming the same BJP to rule them.”The state Congress chief said that the government has failed to compensate the flood victims and deprived people of ration by implementing National Food Security Act in the state.“More than one year has passed, flood victims are yet to be compensated by the government. We had demanded Rs 44,000 crore as flood package from the centre. The present government has only distributed only Rs 25000 crore to the flood victims,” Mir said.“Food Security law was implemented by the coalition government and by this law snatched ration of the people. This is their biggest gift to the people of the state,” he said.Besides these issues we held the protest against the PDP-BJP coalition for its failure to govern, he said.On the proposed setting up of Sainik Colony, Mir said the party will not allow encroachment on Article 370 and dilute special status of the state.“Congress has made it clear that they won’t accept any such proposal from the government that encroaches or dilutes special status of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
