13 killed, 4 injured in landslide in Myanmar

A total of 13 people were killed and four injured when a mound of excavated earth from a jade mine in Hpakhan township, Kachin state in northernmost Myanmar collapsed, local police said on Saturday.The earth mound was in the compound of the jade mine near Bazan Chauk village, Seitmu village group in Hpakhan township and the victims were searching for pieces of jade on the top of the mound which was 150 feet in height and 200 feet in width on Thursday night, reported Xinhua news agency.Officials from the department of social welfare, relief and resettlement of Mohnyin district gave block grants to the families of the victims.At least 100 people were killed in a landslide in Hpakhan in November 2015. Over 40 landslides occurred in this town in 2015.
