The residents of Dandirkhah area of Batamaloo locality Tuesday staged protest against Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for ‘failing to provide drinking water supply to them from past seven days’.The residents including women, men and children assembled and blocked the main road of the area and were chanting slogans against department. They were demanding adequate water supply in the area. The protests told KNS that the officials are denying the water facility to them from past seven days. “Despite approaching officials in this regard, nothing has been done,” they said. The blockage of the main road in the area by the residents resulted in the massive traffic jam thereby leaves the commuters as well as the transporters to suffer. The protesting residents told KNS that from past seven days, the PHE officials have failed to pay heed to their sufferings. “We time and again urged higher officials including Chief Engineer PHE to redress their problems but to no avail,” the protesters said. They said that they have been forced to take streets against them as from past seven days they were complaining of water scarcity but unfortunately nothing has been done in this regard. Meanwhile, according to eye-witnesses, hundreds of vehicles were seen stranded in the area while the protesting residents were not allowing any one to ply.“Already the diversion has created chaos in Srinagar. Now the protests by people on main roads are also creating more chaos in the vehicular movement,” a transporter told KNS. (KNS)
