A one-day scientist-farmer interactive programme ‘Mushkbudji from Revival to Market’ was today organized at Sagam here.The programme was organized by Sher-e-Kashmir Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Mountain Research Centre for Field Crops Khudwani. MLA Kokernag Adbul Raheem Rather was the Chief Guest on the occasion, Prof. Nazeer Ahmad Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Dr. RC Agarwal, Registrar General, PPVA & FRA, Dr. Bihari Lal Sharma, Executive Director, Youth for Sustainable Development attended the programme During the interactive programme, agricultural scientists and experts interacted with farmers and apprised them about latest innovative techniques of inclusive farming. The experts provided valuable inputs to the farmers about the production of Mushkbudji variety of rice that is indigenous species grown in few areas of the state.Terming agriculture as the backbone of state economy, the MLA Kokernag urged the farmers to desist from converting agricultural land into residential or for business purposes. He said that people living in the area should cultivate the traditional species of rice as the area is known for Mushkbudji production.Later, a demonstrative session focussing on pre and post harvest techniques for the production was held to acquaint farmers and locals about techniques of safeguarding crops. The farmers were also provided seeds of the Mushkbudji.
