The opposition National Conference (NC) is holding its vital working committee meet in Jammu on Saturday with Dr Farooq presiding over the function.Sources said that the top leadership of NC will remain present in the meet and party’s future strategy would be discussed at threadbare after deferment of polls in Anantnag.The party has already expressed concern over the sudden announcement b the ECI about postponement of the elections that were scheduled to be held on May 16. The seat went vacant after the demise of the former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7, this year at AIIMS New Delhi. NC’s working committee meet which is being held at Jammu will witness the participation of NC patron Dr Farooq Abdullah, former chief minister Omar Abdullah besides several others.Sources told KNS that the meet shall discuss party’s forthcoming strategy and measures that shall be taken in the coming time.
The Election Commission Thursday announced postponement of bypoll to the prestigious Anantnag assembly seat after the Jammu and Kashmir government said the law and order situation in the district was "not conducive".In an official release, the Commission said the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir B R Sharma has apprised it that the law and order situation of Anantnag district due to certain recent incidents is not conducive at the moment for the holding bye-election.He requested the Commission to postpone the bye-election from Anantnag Assembly constituency for the present, it said.Located in South Kashmir, Anantnag seat fell vacant after the death of the then state Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on January 7.The EC had announced bypoll to this seat along with eight other Assembly seats on May 16.
