Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and Law and Justice, Abdul Haq Khan today met Chairperson, J&K State Accountability Commission, Justice B A Khan and discussed with him the affairs of the Commission. Member, J&K State Accountability Commission, Justice J P Singh was also present in the meeting.Justice Khan apprised the Minister of the difficulties faced by the Commission in performance of its statutory duties and steps that are needed to be taken to revive the Commission. He handed over to the Minister, a copy of the proposed amendment for being taken up in the State Assembly.Justice Khan informed the Minister that the Commission’s jurisdiction has been limited to the political class only pursuant to various amendments made in the Act. He advocated the restoration of the powers of the Commission as were contained in the original Act of 2002.The Minister assured that Government would examine the issue dispassionately and do whatever is possible to make the Commission an effective instrument for bringing about transparency and accountability in public administration.
